Tottenham fans released black balloons in protest against Daniel Levy and ENIC during the Liverpool defeat on Sunday, according to Nizaar Kinsella.
Ange Postecoglou’s side were beaten 6-3 by Liverpool in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on 22 December, with Gary Neville laughing at one Spurs ace after what he did.
Ahead of the match protests were planned to demonstrate against ENIC and Levy’s running of the club.
And according to Kinsella, writing via BBC Sport [22 December, 5:00 pm], “A smattering of Spurs supporters release their black balloons in protest of chairman Daniel Levy in the 24th minute.
“They read “Levy Out” or “Enic Out”, the latter being the holding company used by the Levy to run this club. He has been at the club for 24 years, hence the timing, but it wasn’t the most widespread or visible protest inside the stadium.”
Tottenham fans protest against Daniel Levy as Liverpool run riot in North London
Spurs’ defeat to Liverpool perfectly encapsulated why a select number of Spurs supporters decided to protest against ENIC and Levy on Sunday.
Arne Slot’s side ran riot against a heavily-depleted Tottenham team in North London, and while the home side demonstrated heart and fight to score three goals and almost stage a remarkable comeback, they just ran out of steam in the end.
This is yet another example of how the club haven’t been properly backed in the transfer window, leaving Postecoglou with a paper thin squad which always looks at risk of crumbling as the injuries pile up.
Had Spurs brought in some more ready-made stars during the summer, they wouldn’t have had to rely on playing 18-year-old midfielder Archie Gray at centre-back against one of the best teams in the league.
And while the injury crisis, which has led to behind the scenes dismissals being mooted, isn’t necessarily ENIC and Levy’s fault, the lack of adequate replacements for those injured players is.
In other Tottenham news, the club and one big-name player are apart on a new contract agreement.
