Beto interest from Serie A is set to fall on deaf ears as Everton have no plans to allow him to leave in the January transfer window, TEAMtalk report.
According to the outlet’s website the Toffees believe the Guinnea-Bissau striker is an important member of Sean Dyche’s squad and can be a success in the Premier League yet.
Everton have reportedly only paid off a small amount of his transfer fee in instalments so far, and aren’t willing to sanction the forward leaving, permanently or on loan, in January.
Beto arrived in £25.75million deal with Udinese two summers ago [Sky Sports] but has been linked to Roma exit [Il Messaggero, 10 October], and is now reportedly a target for Juventus on loan in the winter window [Gazzetta dello Sport, 13 October].
Dominic Calvert-Lewin also linked with Everton exit
Beto arrived at a time when the Toffees had rarely been able to rely on Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s availability, but the Englishman has largely avoided the injury nightmares of previous seasons ever since.
As such the Guinnea Bissau international has rarely had much of a run in the team and has only scored six times in 43 appearances, that have largely come off the bench.
If Calvert-Lewin were out of action Beto would become vital, with Chelsea-loanee Armando Broja still not yet fit and youngster Youssef Chermiti also out long-term.
Unless there is a capable replacement to bring in immediately it would make no sense for Everton to let the 26-year-old sign elsewhere and leave Dyche short this season.
And with most of the payments to Udinese, which only started in the summer [The Esk, 31 May], yet to be made there would be minimal benefit from a PSR perspective to sell him.
With prospective new Toffees owner Dan Friedkin also in charge at Roma there is surely zero chance that the striker would head to the Stadio Olimpico unless there was a strong contingency plan for Everton.
Calvert-Lewin himself faces an uncertain future as his contract is set to expire in the summer and ownership uncertainty has contributed to him refusing to sign a new one so far [The Times, 19 July].
The club have an eye on changing his mind with the promise of greater success under a new Friedkin regime [Graeme Bailey, 10 October] so the matter may be solved within a couple of months once the American gets his takeover sealed.
But, unless Broja returns to full fitness and suddenly explodes to the extent that Everton trigger the permanent option in his deal the club currently only have Beto as a senior striker secured long-term.
In other Everton news, the Toffees have their eye on a new right-back who looks set to be available for well below his release clause.
