Everton star ruled out of Euro 2024 clash as new injury update emerges - report

Ukraine manager Sergiy Rebrov has confirmed that Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko will miss the first game of Euro 2024, according to From The Spot.

The outlet reported on its website on Sunday (16 June) that Ukraine’s head coach admitted that the Toffees left-back’s injury will not have healed in time to face Romania in Munich on Monday (17 June).

Mykolenko was forced off during a pre-tournament friendly against Moldova and despite initial fears that the damage was serious, it seems as though he could return sooner than initially expected.

As quoted by From The Spot, Rebrov said: “The injury [Mykolenko] has doesn’t heal in one or two days. We can see how he’s working and we’ll hope he’ll be back as soon as possible.”

Everton and Sean Dyche dodge new blow after Vitalii Mykolenko Euro 2024 update

While pre-season and a return to action at Goodison Park is still a little while away for Mykolenko and the rest of his Everton teammates, the Toffees will be incredibly relieved to hear the defender’s injury isn’t as serious as first feared.

When fit last season, the Ukrainian was one of Sean Dyche’s most consistent and reliable performers as he forced his way back into the side and impressed week in and week out as the Blues dodged relegation from the Premier League.

The Toffees have enough issues to contend with off of the pitch so it would have been another problem if they had to find a new left-back during the summer transfer window. Hopefully, that will no longer be necessary following this latest update.

Although supporters on the blue half of Merseyside won’t want to see their left-back pick up a new knock in this summer’s tournament, they would certainly like to see him representing Everton on the biggest stage this summer.
