Beto making a move to Italy in January could allow The Friedkin Group to bring in a winger at Everton, according to the Mail on Sunday.

The Mail reported in their print edition (29 December, page 88) that while the Toffees’ new owners want to strengthen their squad next month, TFG will still have to follow tight PSR restrictions at Goodison Park.

With a new winger and full-back top of the shopping list in January, the Toffees may have to sell before they can buy, but interest in Beto from Serie A sides could facilitate reinforcements in either position.

The Blues are also fond of Lyon’s Georges Mikautadze despite an immediate transfer looking unlikely [Foot Mercato, 26 December], but the potential sale of Beto could free up much-needed funds to add depth to Sean Dyche’s squad.

The Friedkin Group have plenty of work to do at Everton

Although the Toffees have a clear need for reinforcements in both full-back positions and particularly on the right flank of midfield [TEAMtalk, 9 October], Dyche’s squad is one in need of upgrades almost from front to back.

While Beto has hardly kicked a ball this season – with just one of his 10 Premier League appearances coming from the start – the Blues are hardly blessed with a plethora of options at centre-forward.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s future at Goodison Park also looks precarious with his contract one day away from being in its final six months, while Armando Broja is only on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

The Friedkin Group completing their takeover may allow the Blues to shell out the £30million needed to sign Broja permanently next summer, but for the time being, he remains a hugely unknown quantity.

The need for a right winger in particular is no secret on Merseyside, and with Beto looking set for the exit door, the jury remains out on how much stronger the Toffees’ squad will be come the end of the window.

In other Everton news, one of the Toffees’ star men faces a contract situation which needs to be resolved as soon as possible.
