Everton takeover bid now sole priority of New York-based group after Tottenham news - report

Everton are now the sole priority of MSP Sports Capital after the group pulled out of the running to buy a stake in Tottenham Hotspur, according to TheBootRoom.

MSP had previously expressed their interest in purchasing up to a 40 per cent stake in Daniel Levy’s Spurs shareholding [Paul O’Keefe], but TBR’s report stated that this bid is no longer active.

The New York-based investment group have been involved at Goodison Park for over a year, loaning the Toffees roughly £158million to aid the construction of their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.

That loan was one of the sticking points in the failed takeover attempts of 777 Partners, who were unable to provide proof that they were capable of funding the repayment of that £158million to MSP on the club’s behalf.

MSP Capital to pursue Everton takeover attempt

Prospective buyers have been queuing up at Goodison Park ever since the collapse of 777 Partners’ attempted takeover on May 31, with MSP one of the interested parties [Tariq Panja].

Given their prior involvement with the club and knowledge of the financial situation at Goodison Park, MSP completing a buyout of Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1 per cent shareholding would arguably be the smoothest transition.

The Bramley-Moore Dock Stadium could be a game-changer on and off the pitch for Everton.

However, it’s also one that Toffees fans will be less than keen on, with MSP being one of the creditors the club already owe money to and thus having to cover their own backs, rather than prioritising the club’s need for that £158million sum.

A more likely, and more palatable, situation would see Blues fans Andy Bell and George Downing lead a consortium including MSP to complete their own takeover of the club, and that is reportedly developing as the duo seek exclusivity talks with Moshiri [The Telegraph].

It’s believed that Bell and Downing are already on good terms with the Iranian, and that could swing the balance in their favour to result in a favourable settlement for Moshiri, MSP, and the wider Everton fanbase [Daily Mail].

In other Everton news, a European club are keen to get their striker off their wage bill with a £26million transfer on the cards.
