Everton takeover: Stefan Borson reacts to 'exclusive' development

Everton are likely to face cash-flow issues in the run-up to January despite John Textor’s being handed exclusivity in his bid to take over the club.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider there are questions around the American businessman’s wealth and how he’s going to fund the Merseyside giants if the deal goes through.

Textor was handed exclusivity last week as he looks to strike a deal to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94-per-cent stake at Goodison Park.

The Guardian reported on 21 August he is now in Liverpool to hold further talks with Moshiri and a deal is expected to be agreed by the end of this week.

But one complication is the 58-year-old’s 45-per-cent stake in Palace, with Premier League rules forbidding ownership of two clubs in the same division.

Borson suggested there are still many questions that remain about how Textor will look to resolve some of Everton’s off-field issues.

He told Football Insider: “There are two aspects that are of interest regarding Everton, but we really have got very limited information at the moment.

“One of them is just how wealthy Textor is independently and, therefore, where he will get his resources from to be able to do the deal.

“The second one is how does he actually execute the deal even if he doesn’t have the Crystal Palace shares.

“What price is he going to be paying? What is he doing with the debt? Does he have the resources to refinance the bits that will need to be refinanced in due course? Does he have the money to supply the club with working capital? How long does the deal take?

“He’s talked in some of these pieces that have been reported this week about being able to bridge the situation until January.

“But that then does imply that they do have some cash issues in the run-up to January.

“There are a lot of unknowns with the deal.”
