'What a state' - Neil Moxley: Something 'Bad' must happen to Everton amid situation

Everton are in a “state” and something “bad” must happen for things to get better at Goodison Park, according to Neil Moxley.

On page 51 of the print edition of the Sunday People [15 September], Moxley argued the club are in need of a “reboot”.

The Toffees must bear another week pointless in the Premier League after a second successive contest in which they have blown a two-goal lead, this time surrendering a promising position to lose at Aston Villa.

Moxley said: “Perhaps a reboot is needed. Perhaps something bad does need to happen at Goodison Park for the club to reset itself. It’s been coming, but that’s no solace. What a state.”

The picture on the faces of the Everton players as they coyly approached their travelling supporters upon the final whistle at Villa Park spelt speechlessness and exasperation.

Their fans may have feared this in the back of their minds even after Dominic Calvert-Lewin had given Sean Dyche’s team a two-goal lead in the first half – the notion that it was too good to be true, this is Everton after all.

And the writing was on the wall since Ollie Watkins’ first to claw Villa back into it – the Merseysiders would find themselves clambering to try and salvage a draw that never came.

Simply getting off the mark is imperative and it is only down to Southampton – who are yet to so much as score a goal this season – that the club can at least share the unwanted mantle at the moment.

Dyche can gain some respite in the Carabao Cup this week when Saints of all teams come to Goodison, but next weekend’s trip to Leicester City will be identified as a potential early survival six-pointer.
