“Everyone was in contact” – Leicester City manager gives Wilfred Ndidi update post Libya

Leicester City head coach, Steve Cooper, has given an update on Super Eagles midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi, after he and the Nigerian team were stranded in Libya, Soccernet.ng reports.

The 27-year-old versatile midfielder played 74 minutes in Nigeria’s 1-0 win against Libya at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.

Ndidi, alongside the rest of the Super Eagles team travelled to Libya for the return leg but they were redirected to another airport where they were left stranded for over 13 hours without food and internet.

The Nigerian midfielder returned safely to England on Tuesday, and took part in the Foxes training yesterday, with Cooper maintaining the club will do their best to keep Ndidi at top physical and mental condition.

“He’s fine, and that’s the most important thing. He’s back with us and he’s safe and well. We were in close contact with him throughout the situation they found themselves in. He kept us updated. I know there was a bit of a wifi issue at times, so maybe it wasn’t as regular as anybody would have liked. Everyone was in contact, myself included, to make sure he was safe and well

Fortunately, the situation they found themselves in was resolved and everybody got back safe. He was back with us pretty soon after and has trained since. Fortunately, he’s in a safe place, and that’s including the mental side of it as well.

He trained really well yesterday, I have to say, and that was pleasing to see. Maybe that was something he needed, a little bit of a release just to get back to normality. We’ve checked in with him in every way that we should and he’s more than happy to get back to business as usual. He trained yesterday, will train today, and will be ready like everybody else for the game at the weekend,” the 44-year-old said in his press conference as revealed by Leicester Mercury.

Ndidi has been at his creative best for Leicester City this season, providing four assists in seven games.
