Tottenham face a “battle” if they want to sign John Victor ahead of Manchester United.
Fraser Forster is currently performing well deputising as Spurs’ number one with Guglielmo Vicario sidelined. However, the 36-year-old is expected to leave Tottenham at the end of the season.
Therefore, there could be room for a new goalkeeper in North London, and according to CaughtOffside [16 December], both Tottenham and Manchester United want to sign Botafogo shot-stopper Victor, who could be available for £8million, ahead of January.
And while ex-Spurs scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the North London side have very chance of beating United to Victor’s signature, he also recognises that it’ll take some serious efforts.
“I don’t know much about this player,” King said.
“However, if the recruitment has been how it should be, then this is clearly a player who they feel can push Forster until Vicario comes back and then make Vicario work harder too. If they can get him for £8million then it sounds like it could be a decent deal.
“They have got every chance of beating Manchester United to his signature. However, this is a Brazillian player, who might therefore be interested in working with a Portuguese coach in Ruben Amorim.
“As a result, I think Spurs will certainly need to battle for him, if it gets that far.”
Tottenham and Manchester United to battle for John Victor?
Spurs need to strengthen several positions this January, with the club suffering an injury crisis so bad that behind-the-scenes dismissals have been mooted as a result.
Therefore, whether or not the club will be able to beat United to the signing of Victor remains to be seen, as their priorities or attention could lie elsewhere.
A brand-new centre-back also appears to be on the cards, and considering the current situation, Ange Postecoglou will probably take whatever help he can get.
