Exclusive: Cole Palmer makes Man City transfer decision

Cole Palmer is “not interested” in a sensational return to Man City amid speculation surrounding his future at Chelsea, sources have told Football Insider.

The 22-year-old made the switch to Stamford Bridge in 2023 and has since established himself as a crucial player in Enzo Maresca’s side.

Sources close to Palmer’s camp have told Football Insider that he remains keen to repay the Blues’ faith in his talents and is not considering leaving the club.

Reports had previously suggested that Pep Guardiola’s side were considering re-signing Palmer as a long-term replacement for Kevin de Bruyne.

However, any talk of a move is now considered premature given the doubts from all parties.

Sources also say that, while City regret letting the attacking midfielder leave, there is a belief that paying big money for his return would not be a good look for the club.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 18 October that Chelsea are not interested in entertaining offers for their star player, and it would take a “world-record fee” for them to take notice.

Palmer was rewarded for his outstanding debut campaign with a new nine-year contract in August 2024, which ties him to the club until at least June 2033.

Palmer has scored 31 goals and provided 20 assists in 55 appearances since leaving the Etihad, making him one of the most in-form players in the country.

He has also racked up nine appearances for England, scoring two goals including one in the final of Euro 2024 where he impressed despite a defeat to Spain.

So far this season, the attacking midfielder has scored six goals and provided five assists in eight Premier League games, rubbishing any questions about his consistency.

Chelsea, meanwhile, finished last season in sixth place and were only able to qualify for the Europa Conference League despite their aim of reaching the Champions League.

Despite this, Palmer remains committed to the project at Stamford Bridge and is not entertaining talk of a return to his former club.
