Leicester City have made the surprise move to sack Steve Cooper this weekend and a former Chelsea boss could be targeted to take over.
Cooper has been removed after a five game winless run which has left the Foxes 16th in the table and just a point above the drop zone.
However, with Leicester doing the best out of all the promoted sides and others in trouble as well, Cooper’s exit has come as a bit of a surprise.
And according to TBR Football sources, a former Chelsea boss could be the man to replace Cooper.
Leicester considering Graham Potter as Steve Cooper replacement
TBR Football understands that former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is one of the options that Leicester have been looking at in recent weeks to replace Steve Cooper – who was sacked on Sunday.
The appointment of Cooper was controversial one in the summer and the Foxes fanbase were never truly won over by the former Nottingham Forest chief.
Leicester were very happy with their summer business but TBR Football is told by sources that they do not believe that Cooper was getting the best out of his squad.
TBR Football understands that Leicester’s hierarchy have been doing their due diligence in recent weeks on potential candidates and Potter is again high on their list of options.
TBR Football revealed in June that Leicester turned their attention to Cooper after their talks with Potter stalled, but now the deal could be back on.
Potter is currently without a job since leaving Chelsea in 2023 and has held talks with numerous clubs including the likes of Ajax – but Leicester could be the team to temp him back into management.
Potter could relish Leicester challenge
Everyone knows how well Potter did with Brighton and the move to Chelsea was just one of those that never worked out for a number of reasons.
But a move to Leicester might be a good fit for Potter, who would have the chance to work under ambitious owners and with a squad that is clearly capable of results at this level.
Enzo Maresca left things in good shape for Steve Cooper and in fairness to the former Forest boss, it hasn’t been terrible.
Potter, though, might be considered a step up by some at the club and with a point to prove after the Chelsea shambles, the time might just be about right for his return.
