Exclusive: Liverpool scouted £33m fullback on the weekend who could replace Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool had a fairly quiet summer transfer window.

Liverpool added Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili to their ranks, who has returned to Valencia on a season-long loan.

Liverpool tried to sign Martin Zubimendi, too, but that move broke down after he decided to remain at Real Sociedad.

So evidently, there are still funds available to spend in January and with that said, they’re keeping close tabs on a highly-rated fullback who could potentially replace Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool scouted Jeremie Frimpong on the weekend

Liverpool and Real Madrid both watched Jeremie Frimpong in action over the weekend, TBR Football understands.

The Dutch right-back Frimpong is set to move in 2025 and interest in his signature is substantial.

Real Madrid are looking to bolster their options at right-back, but it is not just Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold on their radar with Frimpong a player very much in their sights, too.

With Real also strongly linked with current Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso – it would be interesting to see whether he would follow his boss to the Spanish capital. Frimpong is not the only player linked and Real also have been checking on Pietro Hincapie and Florian Wirtz.

Liverpool still believe Trent Alexander-Arnold will stay

Liverpool maintain a belief that they will keep Alexander-Arnold but they are doing their work on potential options, should they lose their homegrown star and TBR Football can confirm that Frimpong is one of those.

Liverpool and Real were both in Bremen at the weekend to see Frimpong feature in their 2-2 draw with Werder – in which he helped himself to an assist.

A number of clubs have watched Frimpong over the last 18 months including, Manchester City, Arsenal and Manchester United.

A telling January window lies ahead for the 23-year-old, who is reportedly valued at £33m.
