Exclusive: More surprising Man City news emerges today

Man City have not only taken legal action against the Premier League to end associated party deals but they want to be paid “millions” in damages, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League champions have taken legal action against regulations that monitor the valuation of commercial and sponsorship deals signed with companies related to a club’s ownership.

City have partnered with several Abu-Dhabi-based companies since their club takeover in 2008.

Four of the club’s 10 most lucrative sponsorship deals are currently with Abu-Dhabi companies, including their stadium and shirt deal with Etihad Airways.

City are now taking legal action against the Premier League to attempt to end the league’s Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules.

The Manchester giants claim that the rules – which state that all deals must be deemed ‘fair market value’ – are unlawful and discriminatory.

City have said that they are victims of “tyranny of majority” as they look to force a change to Premier League regulations.

Sources have told Football Insider that City will not only look to abolish the current regulations, but they will also demand “millions” from the Premier League in damages in yet another astonishing twist to the drama.

City are prepared to argue that the rules in place have stopped them from striking more lucrative commercial and sponsorship deals and therefore they should be compensated.

As per The Times, the case is set to be settled after a two-week private arbitration hearing starting on Monday (10 June).
