Exclusive: Ruben Amorim and Sporting Lisbon have different ideas on Man United start date
Ruben Amorim does not think he should be in charge of Sporting Lisbon to face Manchester City next week.
Manchester United are edging closer to finalising their deal to bring Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford, but there are still some hurdles to overcome, TBR Football understands.
TBR Football has already confirmed that Amorim has agreed terms on a long-term contract with United that will see him treble his salary.
However, despite Amorim’s deal being in place, sources have confirmed to TBR Football that one issue that remains is his start date.
Ruben Amorim not looking to face Manchester City
We are told that Sporting would like Amorim to remain in charge until the next international break which comes after their game with Braga on November 10th.
However, before that they are due to face Manchester City in the Champions League on November 5th and it is believed that Amorim does not think he should be in charge by that point.
He feels the City game and the build up would become something of a ‘circus’ and would detract from the players as everyone would be focused on him.
With that, Amorim believes that his final game in charge of Sporting should be this Friday when they are due to face Estrela da Amadora at the Jose Alvalade.
United want new boss at Old Trafford for Chelsea clash
Sporting actually have the ability to make Amorim work his notice period which is for 30 days and would therefore mean he is in charge for their City clash and talks between all parties are now centred around this point.
United have no issues with Amorim seeing out the game on Friday, but ideally they would want him at Old Trafford on Sunday for their clash with Chelsea – although it is likely he would not officially take charge until Monday, subject to Sporting’s agreement.
