Exclusive: Tottenham rejected chance to sign Wolves star before Molineux move

Tottenham News understands that Jørgen Strand Larsen was offered to the North London club before he joined Wolves.

Larsen scored a last-minute equaliser as Wolves drew 2-2 with Spurs in the Premier League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (29 December), increasing pressure on Ange Postecoglou, who is expected to be backed in January as he fights for his future [via Football London, 30 December].

Wolves signed Larsen on loan from Celta Vigo this summer, with the deal automatically becoming permanent until 2029 for £23million if certain clauses are triggered [via BBC Sport, 2 July 2024].

Since arriving in the Premier League, the striker has scored seven goals and provided two assists in 19 appearances, an impressive return considering his side’s struggles this season.

However, it has emerged that Larsen might have lined up for Tottenham this term if things had panned out differently.

A recruitment source with close links to Spurs has exclusively revealed to Tottenham News that Postecoglou’s side were offered Larsen, but weren’t interested.

The Norwegian’s finish against Spurs was described by a source as “fantastic”, and the forward isn’t the only player who has impressed at Molineux this season, with Matheus Cunha on fire and linked with Spurs [via TBR Football, 25 November] as a result.

As a result, the club might be regretting turning down the opportunity to sign Larsen.

Tottenham News understands that West Ham, Manchester United and Crystal Palace were the other Premier League teams offered the opportunity to sign the 24-year-old.

However, Larsen ended up at Wolves and would come back to haunt Postecoglou and Spurs.

In other Tottenham news, the club could look to cash in on Son Heung-min this January.
