Expert View: First-team Tottenham star must be sold unless he signs new contract

John Wenham has suggested that Yves Bissouma must be sold unless he signs a new contract with Tottenham.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose is hopeful that the midfielder can rediscover his best form in North London.

Bissouma has started both of Spurs’ pre-season matches so far, scoring his first goal in Tottenham colours during a 2-0 win over QPR on Saturday (20 July).

And Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels a decision now needs to be made.

“Bissouma has another two years left on his Spurs deal,” Wenham said.

“Therefore, he either needs to sign a new contract or he’ll have to be sold if we’re going to maintain maximum value for him.

“He has started both pre-season games so far and he has done well. That needs to continue, and he needs a big start to the season.

“Bissouma played well at the beginning of last season, but his form quickly petered off. Hopefully, he can return to those previous levels.”

Bissouma is an incredibly frustrating player for Tottenham supporters.

He has demonstrated that he can excel in midfield for Ange Postecoglou. However, he is also inconsistent.

If he can get a good pre-season behind him and find a consistent run of form next season, there is no reason why he wouldn’t be offered a new deal at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, if he is to struggle once again, Spurs are unlikely to offer him a new deal, which would mean he would need to be sold next summer if the club are to recoup any of the money they paid for him.

As a result, this is something of a make-or-break season for Bissouma in North London.
