'Extremely Unlikely' - Dunn makes Rangers & Celtic prediction after being blown away

Andy Dunn has been left impressed by Rangers and Celtic after their performances in European competition in recent weeks.

The Gers kicked off their Europa League campaign with a superb 2-0 win away against Malmo thanks to goals from Nedim Bajrami and Ross McCausland.

Their Old Firm rivals started with a bang in the Champions League, securing a 5-0 win at Parkhead.

This has prompted Dunn, in his column for the Sunday Mirror on 29 September (page 71) to praise the quality of the two sides.

He said: “Anyone who saw those two games will have been impressed by the standard of football the Scottish sides produced.

“We all know that it is extremely unlikely to ever happen but the addition of Celtic and Rangers to the Premier League would only help justify the claim to it being the best in the world.”

Rangers and Celtic shine on European stage

It was certainly disappointing when the Light Blues were dumped out of the Champions League in controversial circumstances against Dynamo Kyiv.

Philippe Clement’s side now feature in the Europa League and have taken to it like a duck to water.

It wasn’t long ago that Giovanni van Bronckhorst guided his Rangers side to the final of the competition, losing on penalties to Frankfurt in 2022.

The Gers have started as they mean to go on in this year’s competition with a hard-fought win against the Swedish side on Thursday 26 September.

There has been regret mooted after missing multiple chances to extend their lead but that won’t bother them too much.

This could act as a springboard for their season as they look to impress under Clement after a frustrating end to last season and a difficult start to the new one.

The Belgian needs to re-cement his side back at the top of the Scottish Premiership before thinking of joining the Premier League however.
