Dominic Calvert-Lewin was dreadful for Everton in their goalless draw with Chelsea on Sunday and it may cause The Friedkin Group to have second thoughts over his future.

The Toffees held Chelsea to a goalless draw at Goodison Park on 22 December in a game in which they failed to offer any real attacking threat with Calvert-Lewin the main suspect in that frailty.

Following TFG’s takeover of the club, it was reported by TEAMtalk (19 December), that they are keen on keeping Calvert-Lewin at the club but his performance against Chelsea may change that stance.

The Toffees need much more from their striker if they are to get back to winning ways and TFG may need to look elsewhere in order to address the concerns.

Calvert-Lewin future to be considered after Everton showing

While the result was a decent one, all things considered, attacking woes continued to haunt the Toffees and there are several reasons for that.

Perhaps most importantly, Sean Dyche’s way of playing severely restricts the freedom of his attackers and that will have undoubtedly caused Paul Merson to fume after what he said prior to the encounter.

However, that style of play doesn’t provide an excuse for the dismal performance of Calvert-Lewin who, according to FotMob, completed just seven passes in the game.

His lack of involvement isn’t solely down to his performance but his inability to impact the game when he was involved will be a concern with those seven passes resulting in a 70 per cent pass accuracy.

He failed to register a single shot in the encounter and his link-up play was non-existent with a failure to create a chance in the game.

Calvert-lewin recorded a zero per cent dribble success rate on Sunday with his inability to keep the ball showcased even more by his failure to win his duels.

Of the seven ground duels he was involved in, he failed to win a single one although his 50 per cent win rate in aerial duels was his one and only strength in the game.

If TFG are to offer him a new deal, her will have to start showing far more than he did at Goodison against the Blues.
