Fabrizio Romano has just dropped Riccardo Calafiori update in wake of Arsenal win over Shakhtar

Arsenal are currently facing a potential injury crisis in wake of their Champions League victory over Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Gunners managed to claim a 1-0 win over the Ukrainian champions, but it didn’t come without yet more caveats on the personnel front.

Arsenal defender Ben White was surprisingly substituted at half-time, with Thomas Partey dropping to right-back and Mikel Merino coming off the bench.

Then, in the 66th minute, Riccardo Calafiori went down with a suspected knee injury, which prompted the club doctors to examine him.

And though Calafiori briefly returned to the fold, he then gestured at Mikel Arteta to take him off, with Myles Lewis-Skelly taking his place.

Fabrizio Romano took to X not long after the game finished, with an update on Calafiori.

Mounting injury problems for Arsenal ahead of Liverpool clash

Arsenal face going into Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Liverpool without numerous key players.

The Gunners are already without Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Kieran Tierney through injury, while Jurrien Timber is also a doubt.

William Saliba is suspended for the clash against the Reds after his sending off against Bournemouth at the weekend.

Bukayo Saka missed this game and the Bournemouth trip on Saturday, so it remains to be seen whether he’ll be back for the Liverpool clash.

Likewise, it remains to be seen what the situation is with Calafiori. Arsenal fans will be eager to hear what Arteta has to say at his post-match presser.
