'Fiery' - Greek football expert tells Rangers what to expect v Olympiacos

Stephen Kountourou has told Rangers to expect a “fiery atmosphere” ahead of the trip to Olympiacos in the Europa League.

The Karaiskakis Stadium will host the Light Blues on 7 November, with both teams looking to get points on the board and secure a place in the knockout stages of the European competition.

Philippe Clement’s team are coming off a 2-1 win over Motherwell in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup, and speaking on PLZ Soccer [5 November], Greek football specialist Kountourou has told the Bears to expect another tough fixture.

“A very fiery atmosphere. It’s going to be a sold-out crowd,” he said.

“Rangers fans can expect a very fiery atmosphere. It’s a very loud crowd, not just from the Gate 7 ultras on one side of the pitch. It’s a European night, and it’s what we live for.”

Rangers need a win over Olympiacos

Rangers will be desperate to pick up another win against the Greek outfit, with the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United yet to come.

The Ibrox faithful have already seen their team lose 4-1 to Lyon when the French side made their way to Glasgow on 3 October.

At the moment, the Bears still have a high chance of making it to the knockout rounds, having beaten Malmo and FCSB in the competition.

The Light Blues have been poor in the Scottish Premiership, losing 2-1 to Aberdeen in their previous fixture on 30 October, and the added losses to Kilmarnock and Celtic have put pressure on Clement.

Olympiacos have had a similar trend to Rangers in the current campaign, poor in their domestic league but boasting two wins in Europe against Malmo and Braga.

Players like Vaclav Cerny have stepped up in recent weeks to hand Clement some respite, and supporters will hope that the Czechia star turns up again to take the three points away from Greece.
