Jim Gillespie’s first task as Rangers CEO must be to tell the board to keep out of the everyday running of the club, says David Edgar.
The Heart & Hand Podcast man took to X on 17 August to call for the potential key appointee to form a barrier against the hierarchy sticking their oar in amid a chaotic situation at the club.
The Scottish Sun reported via their website earlier the same day that the St Mirren vice-chairman is being targeted by John Bennett as the new chief executive at Ibrox, after James Bisgrove’s sudden exit to Saudi Arabia earlier this summer.
Gillespie is said to be a lifelong Gers fan with contacts at the club already, but Edgar wrote of his links to the board: “First thing he needs to do is tell them no interference in day to day things.”

With the way things are being run at Ibrox right not it won’t inspire much confidence from the fanbase if the board are bringing in another man already connected to them.
The building work debacle forcing Philippe Clement’s side to decamp to a half-full Hampden Park, the transfer market stalemate, and the hiring and rapid firing of Blaine McConnell last week [4 Lads Had A Dream, 14 August] the club is turning into a circus.
A lack of leadership at the top is surely part of the mess that has been allowed to develop but if Gillespie is to be the man to come in and change that he has a big job to do.
It had previously been reported by the Daily Record on 23 June that Hearts chief Andrew McKinlay was impressing the Gers bosses.
That possibility appears to have fallen away over the intervening weeks to leave yet another major job on the list.
It is currently a lot harder to find anyone at Rangers who is doing things right than getting it all wrong, so Gillespie, or anyone else arriving in the near future, is going to have their work cut out.
Clearly all is not well as results on the pitch have been poor and John Souttar appeared to give away the fact that players aren’t happy either on 16 August, in something of a perfect storm to start the season.
In other Rangers news, Light Blues fans won’t accept one talented ace coming into the first team set up to “save” the side.
