Finance Expert: Tottenham investment to pay off in years as development gets green light

Tottenham receiving the green light for development plans on a new hotel is the sort of investment that will really start to pay off over the next 10 to 15 years, Dan Plumley has said.

Football London reported (11 July) that Spurs have now received further approvals to develop the 30-storey hotel adjacent to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

They explained how a hotel was part of the initial plans put forward in 2016 as part of a major construction projection before submitting new proposals last year for the stadium to be situated at the south stand of their complex, which have now been approved by Haringey Council.

With the stadium already hosting none-football events, such as concerts and NFL games, and set to be a host for Euro 2028, Spurs could be on to a financial win for the foreseeable future.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Plumley responded when asked if the hotel is part of a wider plan to raise revenue: “Yeah absolutely, all those things we keep talking about that Spurs are doing, the new stadium, the events they can do that are not football matches, are all about how do you generate football on a none matchday?

“Adding a hotel into that brings another dimension into it that creates revenue generation. Future investment in the women’s team is going to be vitally important in that market in the future, investing in the youth infrastructure and training ground and everything that encapsulates a football club.

“It’s the full picture and Spurs are kind of harnessing different lots of levers there that they can generate revenue from in the future.

“We’ve said this time and again, it’s always been a long-term play from the club and it’s taken a lot of time to get to this stage but you can start to see the pay off another 10-15 years down the line and that’s where the real kind of growth potential kind of comes in the future and kind of protecting the club as well.

“Really good investment all round in those kind of areas and that’s why you generate that capital to make those kind of investments because in the long term they’ll pay you back handsomely.”

Tottenham lead the way in commercial thinking

Daniel Levy has his critics and sometimes from a footballing perspective you can have sympathy with that.

But off the pitch, Spurs are doing wonders to generate new revenue streams, with their state-of-the-art stadium the envy of clubs the world over.

Adding a hotel to the mix makes perfect sense when you think of all the none-football related events that will take place, and Euro 2028 fixtures.

It is just another sign that Spurs are making some shrewd investments are being made now with an eye on reaping the financial rewards further down the line.

In other Tottenham news, one club are now “desperate” to sanction a sale of a Spurs-linked ace in the remainder of the transfer window.
