Former Premier League star outlines mission after joining Sevilla

Sevilla have confirmed success in their push to sign a new striker with the arrival of Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Andalucians lost two key attackers last month with Rafa Mir joining La Liga rivals Valencia and Youssef En-Nesyri heading to Fenerbahce.

However, with other options becoming unavailable and funds tight at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, Iheanacho emerged as a free transfer target.

The Nigerian international left Premier League returnees Leicester City following the expiration of his contract at the King Power Stadium.

Sevilla moved swiftly to wrap up a deal until 2026 with the option for an extra 12 months for the 27-year-old.

Iheanacho emerged through Manchester City’s youth system, but moved on to Leicester in search of first team football in 2017, scoring 30 Premier League goals in five seasons.

“I’m very happy to come to Sevilla. The last 24 hours have been stressful, but I needed to do things quickly. I’m very excited and happy to come to this club”, he told an interview with the club website.

“There were offers from many clubs. But, I was very clear about coming here. Hopefully we can achieve success together. I can’t wait to get started.”

The striker admitted a lack of action in the second half of last season means he is still working on his match fitness with Sevilla heading to England for two friendlies next week.
