'Fortunate' - King stunned after Tottenham controversy in loss v Crystal Palace

Bryan King claims Micky van de Ven was “fortunate” to stay on the pitch as Tottenham lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Sunday (27 October).

The ex-Spurs scout was shocked to see the Dutchman get done for pace.

Van de Ven appeared to be the last man when he pulled Ismaïla Sarr to the ground during the second half. However, he was only shown a yellow card.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thinks the North London side got away with one.

“He was fortunate,” King said.

“I thought he could have been sent off. I was shocked to see him get done for pace. However, he was a yard slow to react.

“By the time he did react, it looked as though he was the last man. I thought Tottenham were fortunate that he only got given a yellow card.

“He got caught square and one ball put Spurs under pressure. Palace looked as though they wanted it far more than Tottenham all afternoon.”

Spurs were awful at Selhurst Park, with Jamie O’Hara critical of Postecoglou’s team selection.

Therefore, it appears as though there is a lot for Spurs and Postecoglou to reflect upon. However, luckily for them, they won’t have to worry about going without van de Ven for three matches.

It looked as though Sarr would have been through on goal had he not been bundled over by the Tottenham centre-back, who hasn’t been short of controversial incidents as of late.

As a result, Postecoglou could have had few complaints if the 23-year-old was dismissed.

Luckily for him, he wasn’t, otherwise an already ugly afternoon could have become a disastrous one.
