Ianis Hagi’s agent has shared an update on whether the Rangers ace has got an offer to leave Ibrox to Greece before the close of their transfer window.
Giovanni Becali told Romanian outlet Fanatik on 6 September that he hasn’t heard of anything from the European league ahead of deadline on 11 September [Transfermarkt].
But he does expect offers for the attacker to come in during the January window if he can force his way back onto the pitch under Philippe Clement, which he feels has been made more likely by the 3-0 loss to Celtic deciding the title race already in his eyes.
Becali said, translated to English: “It would be a shame if he doesn’t play at least until the winter, even as a starter, after which, depending on how he plays, there will probably be other offers from the winter. I haven’t heard of any offer for Ianis from Greece.”
Philippe Clement steadfast in refusal to bring Rangers ace back in
If Greek sides aren’t coming in for the 25-year-old in the final days of their window then Hagi will need Turkish interest or clubs from the Middle East, just as they are for James Tavenier [HITC, 6 September], to come forward to offer him an escape route.
Clement has shown no signs of softening his stance on bringing the Romanian back into the first team despite being short of alternatives so far this season, so it would be a big surprise if he changed course now.
It doesn’t benefit anyone for Hagi to be a highly-paid B Team player for the next four months at least, so unless he is happy with that then Becali should be working hard to find him a move in the coming days.
The Gers’ struggles in offloading him despite no prospects at Ibrox under Clement have been put solely down to paying him too much for most interested clubs to consider [Hugh MacDonald, 5 September].
So the Light Blues are currently thought to be paying him a rumoured £25,000-a-week to do nothing for the first team, as they desperately avoid triggering a clause in his contract that would pay him £6,000-a-week more if he did contribute [Daily Record, 13 August].
The situation is a mess as it stands so a compromise is needed unless a club willing to spend comes in to settle the matter themselves.
In other Rangers news, another club has entered the race to secure a dramatic late transfer exit from the Light Blues squad.
