'Fully fledged laughing stock' - Robbie Fowler reacts to Everton situation

Robbie Fowler has offered his verdict on the ongoing takeover of Everton by dubbing the club a “fully fledged laughing stock”.

Farhad Moshiri is set to end his eight-year stint on Merseyside after The Friedkin Group leapfrogged ahead of John Textor to agree upon the sale of the club.

Fowler tore into the Blues owner in his column for the Sunday Mirror [29 September pg 74-75] and gave his scathing review of Moshiri’s time at the Goodison Park helm.

He said: “Everton have been a fully fledged laughing stock over the past few years.

“Farhad Moshiri has spent a staggering £750 million trying to awaken a sleeping giant – but he will leave behind a club that appears to be suffering from narcolepsy.”

While the prospective deal is not expected to be announced until 2025 [Giulia Bould], it seems that finally Everton have got a deal over the line to hand over the reins from Moshiri.

In the last few years alone, the Blues have faced three relegation battles with a fourth not entirely out of the picture this season, and have been hit with two breaches of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules under Moshiri’s stewardship.

The Friedkin Group has a proven track record in football with Roma and they have all the financial power and business acumen to transform the Toffees from a “laughing stock” to a serious European contender in the Premier League.

Everton last played European football in the Europa League 2017/18 campaign and, once Dan Friedkin puts his stamp on the club, and the club moves to Bramley-Moore Dock at the end of the season, a return to the European stage will be on the minds of all Evertonians.

It has been a fantastic week for the Blues with Sean Dyche picking up his first three points of the season in the 2-1 win against Crystal Palace at Goodison Park. However, the immediate aim will be to put more breathing space between themselves and the relegation spots and they must build on the momentum from the confidence-boosting victory.

The aim, for now, must be on securing their Premier League status for another season and, then the real work can begin as Friedkin ushers in a new era at Everton and one that is set to be more fruitful.
