Gabby Agbonlahor questions Liverpool winger and says starting relies on good fortune

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has questioned where one of Liverpool’s star players will fit in.

The Reds had a relatively quiet summer transfer window after signing just one outfield player.

Federico Chiesa was permitted to leave Juventus after being made surplus to requirements by Thiago Motta.

And snapping up a cheap deal for the Italy international, Liverpool paid just £12.5 million for the 2020 Euros winner.

His fee, although modest in comparison with some other deals, is relative to his injury record though.

Gabby Agbonlahor unsure over Federico Chiesa

The 26-year-old has struggled in recent seasons. Picking up a total of 19 injuries since his move to Turin (TM), Chiesa is in desperate need of a problem-free campaign but Agbonlahor still isn’t sure how the Genova-born winger will fit into Arne Slot’s starting lineup.

“I am just looking at the team and thinking where does Chiesa get in?” he told talkSPORT.

Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool in the summer.
Federico Chiesa joined Liverpool in the sumer.

“It’s going to take a lot, or an injury, for Chiesa to get into the side because Liverpool are flying. Diaz looks like the real deal on that left-hand side.”

The talkSPORT pundit is right about Diaz. The Colombian has been in scintillating form this season scoring three goals and registering one assist in his first three games.

The South American was reportedly a transfer target for Barcelona during the summer window but a move never materialised and Liverpool fans will be relieved.

Mo Salah is Slot’s other main winger. The Egyptian, who plays on the right-side of Liverpool’s attack, is showing no signs of slowing down either. The former Roma man was hugely influential in the Reds’ 3-0 away win against Manchester United last weekend.

So for Chiesa, it seems the Italian must bide his time and wait for lesser cup matches to get his chance, and when they do come, grab them with both hands because dislodging Diaz and Salah seems an impossible task.
