Gary Neville had admitted he got something very wrong he said about Arne Slot under Liverpool as his team thrashed Tottenham 6-3.
Liverpool moved four points clear at the top of the Premier League after winning in North London and they still have a game in hand. The Reds produced possibly their best performance under their new Dutch manager so far and look unstoppable right now.
Speaking after the thrashing of Tottenham, Neville revealed that something he said at the start of the season regarding what would happen to Liverpool under Slot has been proven completely wrong.
Gary Neville’s Liverpool drop-off under Arne Slot prediction is proven wrong
Gary Neville has admitted that Arne Slot has proven him completely wrong after he predicted that Liverpool would suffer a natural drop-off following his arrival. The former Manchester United defender believes we are witnessing one of the greatest starts to life for a Premier League manager.
Slot has now won 21 of his first 25 matches in charge of Liverpool – the fastest an English top-flight manager has ever reached that mark since William Suddell with Preston in 1888. The Reds are well on course to secure just their second Premier League title as they lead the way by four points and a game in hand.
Neville told Sky Sports: “One of the most impressive starts from a manager in 32 years of the Premier League is happening in front of our eyes from that man. Taken over from Jurgen Klopp, many including myself, think there would be a natural decline and a bit of pain but it’s been the absolute opposite.”
What is next for Arne Slot’s Liverpool and the Premier League title race?
Liverpool will be licking their lips at the prospect of facing Leicester City next after they were thrashed 3-0 at home by Wolves. The Merseyside club host the Foxes on Boxing Day and will be hoping for an emphatic win.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will be looking to respond to their goalless draw against Everton as they host West London rivals Fulham. Arsenal will be hoping a lengthy hamstring injury suffered by Bukayo Saka will not hurt them too much as they host Ipswich Town.
