‘Get them out!’ – Rio Ferdinand begs Manchester United to sell ‘s*** players’
'Please be as brutal, please.'
Rio Ferdinand has pleaded with Manchester United’s owners to be ‘brutal’ and get the ‘s*** players’ out of Old Trafford.
Ferdinand saw sporting director Dan Ashworth’s departure from the club after just five months as a ruthless measure from the Old Trafford bosses.
Manchester United poached Ashworth, 53, from Premier League rivals Newcastle United but his surprising exit was confirmed on Sunday.
United said the decision was made by ‘mutual agreement’ and added in a statement: ‘We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.’
Club legend Ferdinand now wants that ruthlessness to be matched on the pitch and suggested they need to offload several players who are ‘not good enough’.
‘I just hope they are this brutal with the s*** players that are there,’ Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel.
‘If there’s any s*** players there – and as fans we could all name one we don’t think are good enough – if they have been there too long or are just not good enough, be as brutal with them and get them the f***out, quick, ASAP.
‘I hope they are like that but it’s different with players with the contacts and the layers. But please be as brutal, please.’
Manchester United have endured a dismal season and Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Nottingham Forest left them 13th in the Premier League.
Old Trafford bosses decided to stick with Erik ten Hag despite a poor league campaign last season and then sacked the Dutchman just a few months into the current campaign.
Ten Hag’s replacement, ex-Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim, has taken four points from his first league games in charge.
Discussing the defeat to Forest, Amorim said: ‘Tough game. We started really bad, the first play we suffered a goal and then it’s hard to try to fight.
‘We then controlled the game and had a lot of situations. We improved the movement in the last third.
‘We managed to draw the game and then at half-time we were ready to go for the win and then started really bad. Two goals. Then we tried a lot of things with not a lot of quality.
‘We didn’t have many situations to score. Tough game in a tough moment but we have to continue the job.
‘This is a long journey. We are improving in some aspects. We have to win games to help us improve the team.
‘We are in the start of something so big that we pay attention to every detail. We already know it’s a big job so we have to continue.’
