Neil McCann has slammed Rangers ace Jefte for his role in Dundee United’s goal in their 1-1 Scottish Premiership draw on Saturday.

The defender chose to mark Ryan Strain on the left-hand side of the box rather than Sam Dalby, who was alone in the centre and was allowed to coolly slot a header past Jack Butland on 23 November.

Speaking on BBC Sportscene (23 November), Neil McCann shared his thoughts on Jefte’s role in Dundee United’s 36th-minute strike.

“Jefte needs to identify the biggest danger and that is that man [Dalby],” McCann said.

“It’s not the man outside, you can see him pointing behind and saying ‘well I’ve got my man’, see in my dressing room, he would have been getting his head ripped off.

“It’s not good enough.”

Jefte needs to improve his form for Rangers soon

In the summer transfer window, the Gers’ defence was one of the most changed areas of the team with the likes of Jefte and Robin Propper coming in to try and bolster their ranks.

This meant that stalwarts such as Conor Goldson and Borna Barisic both had to pack their bags and make way for younger talent.

While getting rid of players for those who are ageing may be good for the long-term, Philippe Clement may have gone too far and it feels like he’s put too much pressure on the heads of some of his new arrivals.

Jefte had been on the Gers’ shortlist for some time and while there have been moments in the season where he’s produced bits of class, it feels like a lot more could come from the Brazilian.

If the defender wants to create a name and a future for himself at Ibrox, things need to turn around as soon as possible.
