David Edgar believes the “first call” for the new CEO and chairman at Rangers should be to sack Philippe Clement after their 1-1 draw against Dundee United on Saturday.
A recent report from Rangers Review (24 November) has shared that former Manchester United chief Patrick Stewart is set to be hired as the new CEO with Malcolm Offord also set to be named the club’s new chairman.
Philippe Clement has been linked with an Ibrox exit recently after the poor performances the Gers have put in this season and the fact that they find themselves third in the league.
Writing via the Heart and Hand X account (23 November), Edgar shared his thoughts on the future of the Belgian.
“It’s not going to improve under Clement. He needs to go,” Edgar wrote. “Should be the first call of a new Chairman and CEO.”
Rangers need to make a decision over Philippe Clement soon
One of the main things that is likely keeping the Belgian in his role is the amount of money the Gers would have to pay him to relieve him of his duties.
Another reason could be the fact that the club only have an interim chairman, John Gilligan, and are yet to hire a new chief executive officer.
As aforementioned, Offord and Stewart are the two who have been most recently linked with filling those voids and if that’s the case, the Belgian won’t have much time to set things straight at Ibrox.
Things have been all over the place at Ibrox this term with a lot of behind-the-scenes things not going quite right.
With things such as John Bennett’s resignation and the fact that James Bisgrove chose to ditch Scotland for a big-money move springing to mind.
Time is now running out for the Belgian and if he can’t find a way to make things right, it’ll surely be curtains for him in the near future.
