Daniel Levy has been hailed by Dan Plumley after Tottenham agreed to a “smart” off-the-field deal with Ant International.
The Lilywhites have confirmed that they had agreed a three-year partnership with the digital payment and financial technology company to become Spurs’ Official Global Payment Solutions and Digital Wallet Partner.
While football finance guru Plumley admits these sorts of commercial deals may be viewed strangely by supporters, he insists that it is a very “astute” bit of business by Spurs and Levy to generate some extra income in North London.
“Absolutely it’s a smart deal,” Plumley exclusively told Tottenham News.
“You see some of these, what might be considered obscure commercial deals where people become official patterns of this and that and Manchester United were one of the early blueprints for that.
“Many years ago, they had 32 different official partners that stretched all the way across various different products and services.
“It’s a way to generate additional revenue and Tottenham have always been very astute when it comes to this.
What is Daniel Levy doing at Tottenham?
“We know how Daniel Levy operates, this seems like another example of that. It goes back to that wider point around the importance of growing commercial partnerships and squeezing that where you can is still an area of growth potential for clubs.
“Particularly at the highest level where you can have partners here there and everywhere that also want to be associated with the club as well.”
With profit and sustainability rules taking hold of the Premier League at this stage, Levy and Spurs’ decision to agree to these “obscure” commercial deals has become even more important.
The Lilywhites will not want to leave any stone unturned when it comes to boosting their income in North London. These deals may not necessarily be groundbreaking, but they boost the influx of cash coming into Ange Postecoglou’s side.
It certainly wouldn’t come as a shock if the Lilywhites were to agree to a few more arbitrary commercial partnerships before the season is finished.
In other Tottenham news, Spurs could be in line for a £35.8million windfall after a new Postecoglou admission this season
