Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is set to meet with the Fan Advisory Board after what they called the “misguided” decision to phase out senior concessions for season tickets.
For the 2024/25 campaign, season tickets saw a six per cent increase, with the most affordable one priced at £856, and the club also decided to increase normal ticket prices (Football London).
This has led to disappointment within the fanbase, but in a statement to Football London [16 October], Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust revealed that they are set to speak to Levy about the issues.
“THST believes that the misguided and unnecessary policy to end new senior concession season tickets impacts the most loyal, long-term supporters, many of whom are on low, fixed incomes,” the statement read.
“It also sets a dangerous precedent and is already triggering a race to the bottom amongst other Premier League clubs.
“However, after months of THST lobbying, and the receipt of thousands of signatures on our petition, sharing of heart-breaking stories demonstrating the impact on senior supporters, and supporting fan-led demonstrations, we believe there is some hope that things will change.
“We’ve secured a firm commitment from Daniel Levy to meet with the Fan Advisory Board to look at the situation again and find a fairer way moving forward. This is an opportunity to reset the policy and show a real commitment to a fair and sustainable pricing model. After all, if we tolerate this, who knows who or what comes next?”
Daniel Levy must think about Tottenham fans
Levy has been in charge of the affairs at Tottenham for some time, and fan sentiment towards him from certain sections has deteriorated over the years.
Under the English businessman’s leadership, Spurs have been unable to achieve much success, and their last trophy came back in 2008 in the form of the EFL Cup.
While Levy has overseen big investment in the team and the stadium in the last few years, the North London side have nothing to show for it.
Therefore, it isn’t fair for the supporters to bear the brunt of the costs since Tottenham haven’t been able to compete in major competitions consistently.
The Lilywhites have not been in the Champions League in the last two seasons, and their performances in the Premier League have been inconsistent.
Ange Postecoglou’s appointment seems to be one of the most prudent things to happen at Tottenham under Levy’s leadership, but the Australian can’t take too long to implement his ideas and bring silverware to Spurs.
Therefore, it doesn’t make sense for the club’s faithful to pay premium prices as things stand.
