Philippe Clement has confirmed that Oscar Cortes will be in the Rangers squad as they face Dundee on Saturday.

Despite initially impressing at Ibrox, the 21-year-old has struggled to get going with injuries taking their toll throughout his time with the club.

The winger has not featured for Clement’s side since September and apart from being on the bench against Tottenham in the Europa League, has not been close to action.

However, in his pre-match press conference ahead of Scottish Premiership action against Dundee on Saturday [21 December], the Gers boss was able to provide positive news from the camp including confirmation of Cortes’ involvement as he said: “There is some flu going around the building, but don’t expect anyone missing.

“No fresh injuries from the last game.

“Oscar Cortes will be in the squad, we will see about getting minutes – he is not there yet to start the game.”

Oscar Cortes will be keen to prove himself at Rangers

Despite a disappointing League Cup final result against Celtic, Clement will be keen to get his team back on track as they turn their heads to Scottish Premiership action on Saturday and will be relieved not to have any fresh injuries giving him headaches.

In addition to this, it is really positive news that Cortes will be available to be part of the squad as he looks to get his fitness back up and minutes under his belt for the Gers in the remainder of the campaign.

The boss is right not to start him in the game and his return to action will need to be managed properly to ensure he doesn’t do too much too soon and set himself back again.

Once he is back to fitness, the winger will be eager to show everyone at Ibrox what he can do ahead of him joining the club permanently in the summer. If he can keep his fitness up, there is no reason he can’t be a key player in the second half of the season.

In other Rangers news, an exit from Ibrox for one player looks to be on the cards.
