Everton supporters have been praised by talkSPORT journalist Angelina Kelly for their actions at Old Trafford before the 4-0 loss to Manchester United.
The Blues fans protested against rising ticket prices in unison with the United fans prior to kick-off on 1 December in a demonstration that was also embraced by city rivals Liverpool and Manchester City hours later.
According to the Football Supporters’ Association, all but one Premier League club raised their ticket prices ahead of the 2024-2025 season despite the competition announcing a £12.25billion revenue increase from broadcasting rights for the period from 2025-2028.
The protest was heralded by Kelly live on talkSPORT [2 December] as she praised Blues supporters for their unity with the United fans, saying: “The Everton fans also got involved which was good to see that solidarity.”
Everton should not price their fans out
Fans are the heart of a football club and they should not be priced out of the beautiful game in favour of ever-increasing revenue.
The FSA says that “football has a spending problem, not an income problem” and argues that supporters should not pay the price as the clubs seek every financial advantage off of the pitch.
Everton are set to announce their pricing structure for the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium this month [29 October, Liverpool Echo] and they must be wary of alienating loyal fans with increasing costs.
When considering the performances on the pitch, it would be a shambles to increase ticket prices after the dull displays under Sean Dyche that have led to the club being in another survival battle.
Incoming new owners, The Friedkin Group, must be aware of supporters strong feelings on this issue and make sure that they take their concerns on board.
The move to the new ground will increase capacity, which will in turn increase matchday revenue anyway, so the club must ensure that they do not price fans out.
In other Everton news, Alan Shearer has given his prediction on whether the Blues will survive.
