Dominic Calvert-Lewin has long been linked with a move away from Everton and January could be his final month at Goodison Park.
Having been close to an exit during the summer transfer window, the striker is once again being linked with clubs outside of Merseyside, with AC Milan and Newcastle United interested [TEAMtalk].
With the 28-year-old striker out of contract once the 2024/25 campaign finishes, many fans were disappointed with the decision to keep him at the club but they may still get a transfer fee.
The one big question in this situation is, however, why would the Toffees want to sell?
Sean Dyche’s side are floundering near the bottom of the Premier League table, two points above Wolves and Ipswich Town after 13 matches, with their only wins coming against Ipswich and Crystal Palace.
The under-pressure manager needs as much firepower at his disposal as possible, having only scored 10 goals in the league so far, so getting rid of one of the biggest stars is a huge risk.
Everton to take January risk and sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin?
One of the main reasons that Everton can afford to move the striker on is that Armando Broja is nearing a return to the team and could replace the striker spot at Goodison Park.
Speaking to the media, Dyche said: “Broja certainly [will be] in and around it”. With the loanee potentially being available for the first time this season, he could find himself boosted into the starting XI.
While the 23-year-old flopped during his six-month loan at Fulham during the 2023/24 campaign, he has shown signs of brilliance in previous spells with Southampton and Vitesse.
The Toffees also have the option to trigger a £30million permanent deal [The Athletic], which could see them quickly replace their exit-linked striker, and January seems like the most sensible time to strike.
In other Everton news, Darren Bent compared Sean Dyche to Erik ten Hag in a new relegation prediction.
