Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s chances to impress in the Everton starting XI could soon run out after Sean Dyche’s recent comments.
The 27-year-old’s form in front of goal has already dropped after his opening two goals and assist in the first four Premier League fixtures, blanking in every game since.
With Beto as the only other alternative in the final third, who has really failed to impress during his time at Goodison Park despite some of his recent efforts, Dyche has had no other option but to play Calvert-Lewin.
He has started all 11 Premier League fixtures so far this season, but that could all be about to change after the latest Armando Broja injury update at Goodison Park.
Speaking in his press conference, quoted by the Liverpool Echo [23 November], Dyche said: “We are discussing the next steps now. He has had a really strong week and a really strong rehab, so hopefully that allows us to fast-track it a bit more than we normally would.
“He has had extra time with the sports science team and his stats are very strong.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin to hand over responsibility to Armando Broja at Everton?
Dyche must also consider that Calvert-Lewin has entered into the final 12 months of his contract at Goodison Park so a new striker would make sense to the Toffees.
The Merseyside club cannot continue to put their faith in a player who may not be here at the beginning of the 2025/26 campaign, and while Broja is on loan right now, there is the potential to make the deal permanent.
Having shown his talents in bursts, even earning himself 23 caps with the Albanian national team, Broja replacing Calvert-Lewin at the end of the season could be a very real possibility.
However, he must showcase his abilities once he returns from injury, which does not seem too far away now after the latest update. Will Calvert-Lewin’s appearances diminish over the coming weeks?
Only time will tell.
