'He had to...' - Troy Deeney shares new Dyche verdict amid Everton 'Pressure' at Goodison Park

Troy Deeney has offered his verdict on Sean Dyche, admitting the Everton boss “had to win” against Crystal Palace.

The Toffees picked up their first three points of the Premier League season as they ran out 2-1 winners at Goodison Park on Saturday (28 September) thanks to a brace from Dwight McNeil.

While BBC Sport pundit Deeney was quick to heap praise on the midfielder for his goals, he was also keen to laud Dyche for pulling out a “massive result” amid growing sack pressure on Merseyside.

Writing in his BBC Sport Team of the Week (1 October) he said: “It was a massive game, he had to win and he pulled it out of the fire.

“There was a lot of pressure, a lot of expectation on him potentially being sacked with the new ownership and he pulls out a massive result to get Everton moving forward.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche amid Goodison Park takeover developments?

It does feel as though Dyche has been on borrowed time so far this season, but with a win now under his belt at Goodison Park, the pressure may well have just started to ease on the Englishman.

The Friedkin Group won’t want to make unnecessary changes on Merseyside once their takeover is completed and while Dyche’s focus will come into focus in the future, it doesn’t mean that they will rush to make a shift in the dugout.

All the Englishman can do is keep winning games. If the Toffees are picking up points and moving away from the relegation zone, Dyche will have a reasonable chance of keeping his job at least until the end of the season.

Hopefully, the win over Palace will be the spark needed to kickstart the Blues’ campaign. Three points against the Eagles will matter very little if this isn’t the start of a good run of form at Goodison Park.

The pressure may have eased on Dyche for now, but every fan knows just how quickly things can change in the world of football.
