'I believe...' - Alan Myers shares new Dele Alli update at Everton

Alan Myers believes Dele Alli just needs to regain match fitness before his contract situation is solved at Everton.

The 28-year-old has not played a single minute of football since February 2023 and is currently without a club after his contract expired at Goodison Park during the summer.

Alli has been training with the Toffees since the end of his contract, continuing his rehabilitation from a serious injury, and it is understood Sean Dyche has space left in his Premier League squad [The Athletic].

Having been asked about Alli’s contract situation, Myers replied via X on Tuesday (1 October): “I believe it’s just a case of him getting match fit now. Not too sure how far away he is from that, to be honest.”

Dele Alli to return to Everton after contract expiration?

Fans at Goodison Park never really got to see the best of Alli, who made just 13 appearances for the Toffees, even making more for Besiktas during a loan spell.

He was meant to be one of the biggest up-and-coming talents after his move to Tottenham Hotspur in 2015, though his career did not pan out for several reasons.

With Alli remaining at Goodison Park despite his contract ending, there is a very good chance that his career could be put back on track by Dyche and the supporting staff at the club.

It could be seen as quite a risk, especially considering his total lack of game time, but Kevin Thelwell has made it clear that Alli would be welcomed back with open arms [BBC Sport, 20 September].

The goals are beginning to flow once again under Dyche, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin already netting twice and Dwight McNeil becoming a hero for the Toffees against Crystal Palace.

Alli would just be another attacking outlet for Dyche to utilise in the final third, giving the Toffees just one more different dimension to the lineup.
