'Oh dear' - talkSPORT pundit reacts live on air as new Dyche replacement mooted at Everton

Jason Cundy has reacted after a supporter suggested he’d prefer to see Martin O’Neill in charge of Everton than Sean Dyche.

The Toffees boss has come under fire from pundits and supporters alike this season after a difficult start to the campaign at Goodison Park, with some suggesting he could be sacked after takeover developments.

Dyche eased some of the pressure surrounding him with a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday (28 September) but one fan has been quick to suggest O’Neill would be a better fit at Goodison Park.

Speaking on talkSPORT on Monday (30 September, 23:15) he said: “If I’m talking about Everton, I want Dyche gone mate.

“I’d rather have Martin O’Neill in mate.”

Cundy reacted saying: “Oh dear, you just won at the weekend.”

Will Everton sack Sean Dyche after new Goodison Park takeover developments?

While Dyche has become a divisive figure at Goodison Park, it is incredibly naive to suggest that a manager who has been out of work since 2019 would be a better fit in the Everton dugout.

In his heyday, O’Neill was an excellent Premier League manager and he demonstrated that during his time in charge of Aston Villa in particular, but that was a long time ago now and the game has moved on massively.

Dyche’s position will be under scrutiny, particularly once the Friedkin Group complete their takeover at Goodison Park [i News, 23 September], but that doesn’t mean that the Blues will sack their manager just for the sake of it.

Unless there is a better candidate waiting in the wings to step into the fold, the Blues should stand by Dyche for now at least as he is as well equipped as anyone to keep this side in the Premier League this season.

It will be interesting to see what the next few weeks and months bring at Goodison Park however as there will be a lot of change afoot.
