'He has talent' - David Edgar blown away as footage of Rangers player emerges from int'l break

Rangers defender Neraysho Kasanwirjo was in action for the Netherlands under-21s against Sweden and his performance impressed David Edgar.

The Heart and Hand podcast host reacted to the footage of the 22-year-old from the game the Dutch side won 3-0.

The summer signing provided two assists and put in an all-round performance in which he defended well and also contributed in the final third.

Edgar wrote on X, as he reacted to the footage shared by ESPN Netherlands: “He has talent. Looked sound defensively but clearly can get forward too.”

Neraysho Kasanwirjo shows why he’s every bit the James Tavernier replacement at Rangers

Kasanwirjo’s performance for the Netherlands against Sweden, where he not only defended robustly but also contributed two assists, illustrates his potential as a long-term replacement for captain James Tavernier.

Unlike the Englishman, who has primarily been lauded for his offensive contributions from right-back and criticised for his defensive output, Kasanwirjo has demonstrated a well-rounded game.

His ability to get forward and influence the game offensively, coupled with his defensive solidity, marks him out as a versatile full-back capable of adapting to modern football’s demands for full-backs to be effective in both halves of the pitch.

At just 22, Kasanwirjo’s youth suggests a trajectory of improvement and adaptation, which aligns perfectly with Rangers’ development ethos.

His knack for contributing in the final third while maintaining defensive responsibilities could provide the club with a more balanced option, potentially making him a crucial asset for the future, especially as the club looks beyond Tavernier’s tenure.

He’s also capable of playing at left-back, which he did for the under-21s and has also been used as a centre-back – offering Philippe Clement with plenty of options.
