Arsenal have confirmed that Edu will leave his job as sporting director with immediate effect and Martin Keown has suggested a theory as to why it’s happened.
Edu has been confirmed as leaving the Gunners after a successful period alongside Mikel Arteta in reshaping the club’s fortunes on the field.
The Brazilian is widely lauded as the man who changed Arsenal’s transfer policy for the better and the last few seasons have seen a number of his signings pay off.
However, TBR Football understands Edu became frustrated with life at The Emirates, while we also understand Edu has been talking to Nottingham Forest for some time over a new role.
But according to former Gunner Martin Keown, there could be an even simpler reason for Edu’s exit.

Speaking for TalkSPORT, former Arsenal defender Keown suggested that Edu might actually be eyeing up a return to Brazil.
“Well, I don’t know for me what could be better than being in that role for Arsenal,” he said. “He may want to return home to Brazil.”
“Ultimately, it took him a while to get going, didn’t it, Edu? I mean, he needed some support from those above him.
“I think the biggest change in Arsenal was a greater investment in time and inclination from the Kroenke family. And I think that’s been mirrored in Josh Kroenke becoming much more visible and much more engaged with Arsenal post the challenges of the European Super League and Arsenal’s climb down from that position.”
Keown then went on to suggest that Mikel Arteta may have lost a good ally at board level but insisted that Arsenal can go out and replace Edu and possibly get even better.
Whether or not Edu ends up as part of Evangelos Marinakis’ team, remains to be seen.
But for now, Arsenal will be looking to replace Edu with the best in class and that search could well impact any January plans Mikel Arteta had in mind.
