'He was fantastic': Charles Watts wowed by £27m Arsenal ace's 'top drawer' int'l display

Arsenal haven’t had much to shout about during the international break, but one player in particular has been impressive.

Raheem Sterling has been the centre of attention during the international break as Arsenal fans caught their first glimpse of the Englishman in action at London Colney.

Mikel Arteta will be pleased with how Sterling has been playing in training as he already managed to skin Jorginho.

Gary Neville has been full of praise for Jorginho ahead of the North London derby as Arteta faces a big decision with Declan Rice set to miss out.

However, it was a different player who caught the eye of Charles Watts during the international break…

Charles Watts left impressed by David Raya’s performance for Spain during the international break

The Spanish media gave David Raya an 8/10 for his performance during Spain’s 4-1 win over Serbia.

“He was confident in the air. A free kick hit his crossbar, but the replays showed that he could have got to the ball.

“David made a great save to prevent Vargas’ goal with another of his trademark dives.

“He was unable to do anything about Amdouni’s goal, who was completely alone on a corner after breaking free from his marker.”

And, Charles Watts was also hugely impressed by the £27m goalkeeper’s display when speaking on his YouTube channel.

“David Raya in goal for them (Spain) again, he was fantastic. He could do nothing with the goal, and made a couple of smart saves.

“His handling was superb, his distribution was fantastic, he got a pre-assist for the third goal I think it was.

“I think it was Ruiz’s goal, it was a brilliant sort of ball out from David Raya down the right-hand side that set it for Ferran Torres who maybe crossed it for Fabian Ruiz.

“A really strong performance and he’s been heavily praised by the Spanish media.”

He then went on to say.

“Raya is going to go from strength to strength, he feels very comfortable at Arsenal. Now you can see the defence trusts him absolutely.

“His handling is fantastic, he’s making saves now, you know real top drawer saves.”

How are the other Arsenal players fairing on international duty?

William Saliba received an 8/10 rating for his performance as France beat Belgium.

“If Lois Openda was wondering about moving to the Premier League in the near future, William Saliba took care to give him a glimpse of what his weekends might look like: on the ground, [with] bloody ankles.”

However, his centre-back partner Gabriel Magalhaes was slammed slightly for his mixed display for Brazil, receiving a 6/10 rating.

“Too nervous in the first half, when he was involved in two disputes with the referee’s interference.

“He also took few risks with the ball at his feet, but saved a goal on the goal line.”

Of course, Martin Odegaard’s injury has been the notable occurrence during the international break, which will no doubt worry Arteta.
