£55m striker Arsenal are still hoping to sign just scored a stunning hat-trick for his country

Perhaps the only blotch on Arsenal’s summer transfers was their failure to address the striker issue that exists for Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal didn’t decide to sign a new number nine in the end, content with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus until January at least.

Of course, that’s not to say that Arteta and Edu weren’t keen to find an upgrade on their current situation.

Benjamin Sesko rejected Arsenal earlier in the summer, explaining that he sees it best to spend at least another year playing for RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.

Perhaps the Slovenian is using Erling Haaland as an example, who didn’t rush his exit from Borussia Dortmund before heading to Manchester City.

But either way, Arsenal are still interested in Sesko, who just delivered a stunning display for his country in a 3-0 win against Kazakhstan in the Nations League.

Over the break, Sesko scored four goals in two games for his country, making good on a fairly disappointing Euros campaign for the £55m-rated striker.

Slovenia were knocked out by Portugal at the last-16 stage, and despite some good moments, Sesko didn’t quite deliver.

That being said, the Leipzig striker was in sensational form on Monday evening, and the solo run for the first of his three strikes, going past three defenders before chipping the goalkeeper, was quite special.

Slovenia manager Matjaz Kek shared some interesting words on Sesko after the game, perhaps going someway to explaining why the striker was right to avoid a big-money move this summer.

Kek spoke about how Sesko has bounced back from the disappointment of the Euros, crediting those at Leipzig.

Via Football Planet, he said: “In Leipzig, the people around him took good care of everything. But it’s always a balancing act; it can go either way.

“But not for a moment was he disrespectful. He remained humble, straightforward, and always challenged his teammates to help him.”

Arsenal also planning Alexander Isak move

Of course, right now it seems as if there are three possible moves for Arsenal next summer in terms of recruiting a striker.

It’s been revealed that Arsenal are planning an Alexander Isak bid – believing the striker would consider an exit should Newcastle United fail to qualify for Europe again.

And then there’s the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, who might also end up costing a Declan Rice type fee in a year’s time.

But perhaps Sesko will still prove a cost effective alternative to both, he might even have a price tag that is half of Isak’s eventual value.

Edu and his transfer team will certainly be keeping a close eye on the Slovenian, who’s destined to be a huge success story at an elite club.
