'Heavyweight' - Ex-Manchester United executive tips Stewart to make big calls at Rangers

Patrick Stewart will not hesitate to make major decisions at Rangers, according to a former Manchester United executive.

Speaking to The Herald [27 November], the unnamed source detailed Stewart’s responsibilities during his 18-year spell at Old Trafford.

He also branded the new Gers CEO as a “heavyweight player”, who is not scared to make big calls when needed.

“I don’t think he’ll be scared to make big calls when they are needed either. He is a heavyweight player.

“When you’re general counsel at United, you’re one of the key advisers within the club. You advise the board and the chief executive”.

Patrick Stewart to make big Rangers calls as CEO

Rangers announced Stewart as their new CEO on Monday [25 November], although he will only take charge on 16 December.

The Light Blues wanted to get their games against Tottenham [12 December] and Celtic [15 December] out of the way so that the new Chief Executive could have a fresh start at Ibrox [The Herald].

If those games do not go according to plan, Stewart will most likely have a big decision to make regarding Philippe Clement.

There have been shouts for the Belgian tactician to be sacked as the Gers fell 11 points behind Celtic in the title race.

The Glasgow giants, though, have been reluctant to sever ties with him in the absence of a permanent chairman and a CEO [Ludo Vandewalle].

With Stewart set to start in his new role on 16 December and Malcolm Offord named as the leading candidate to replace John Bennett as the club’s permanent chairman [The Scottish Sun], Clement may be quickly running out of time in Govan.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues are set to battle Celtic off the field again, with this player eyed by both teams ahead of January.
