Alan Rough believes that Philippe Clement finds himself in a horrible situation at Rangers with the fans no longer wanting him to be there.
The former Celtic goalkeeper also admitted that the club are not in the best health financially, having recently announced £17.2million net losses.
Clement is under pressure at Ibrox with Gers now nine points adrift of the top of the league.
Rough told PLZ Soccer on 1 November at 34:37: “They’ve already put out there the state that the club’s in I think it’s £17million or something like that. I don’t think it goes down to money. I think if they sack him they’ll have something in his contract (compensation).
“I’ve been there sitting on a board when the fans don’t want you there it’s a horrible experience when it’s not only you. It’s your family, it’s who you’ve brought as a guest.”
Rangers must not waste any time and part ways with Philippe Clement
Given his recent struggles, Clement’s position at Ibrox seems untenable.
Delaying his sacking could be seen as procrastination rather than strategy, given the mounting pressure from results and fan dissatisfaction.
Sacking the Belgian before the international break would not only provide a clean break for all parties involved but also allow Rangers to initiate talks with potential replacements discreetly.
This timing would be strategic, enabling a new manager to take over during the break, thereby minimising disruption to the team’s schedule and potentially revitalizing the squad with fresh tactics and a renewed sense of direction.
Proceeding with this decision sooner rather than later might help Gers reset their season and possibly salvage some of their league aspirations.
It is a big gap, undoubtedly, but it is not unassailable and that’s what the new man in charge will constantly have to be reminded of.
In other Rangers news, a league winning manager is now the favourite to take over the reins from Philippe Clement.
