'Huge Issue' - The Esk reacts as new Everton takeover update emerges

John Textor faces a major liquidity problem if he pushes ahead with his latest attempt to buy Everton, according to The Esk.

The Toffees blogger reacted via X on 9 August after a new report from The Guardian that the American was looking to buy the club from Farhad Moshiri to highlight the ongoing issues with selling his Crystal Palace shares and the “huge issue” of available cash.

A source close to the situation has told Goodison News that there is truth to the Guardian report although it has jumped the gun on how advanced it is.

The Esk wrote: “Interesting that the Textor story is doing the rounds again. As with the last time this story was raised he’s been trying to dispose of his Palace shares for a considerable period and liquidity would be a huge issue given Everton’s immediate cash needs under new ownership.

“I am assured liquidity is not a strong point – a big problem if you want to acquire Everton.”

Farhad Moshiri needs Everton buyer after Friedkin Group exit

Immediate reactions to the re-emergence of Textor won’t inspire huge confidence that he is destined to be the next Toffees owner.

Friedkin backing out has been attributed to a deteriorating relationship with Moshiri [Kieran Maguire, 23 July], plus the financial and legal uncertainty surrounding the debt owed to former 777 Partners backers A-Cap [The Athletic, 20 July].

The latter has been branded “unresolvable” in a direct quote to The Esk from The Friedkin Group [Talking The Blues, 20 July] to demonstrate the size of the issue facing the club.

John Textor moving to buy Everton could be an issue from a liquidity perspective.

But parties are clearly still interested [Price of Football, 23 July] despite the well-publicised reasons for the Roma chief to abandon his attempt so others must not deem the situation impossible, from the outside at least, although it is believed others have been scared off [Esk, 31 July].

The huge debts to various creditors and the need to complete the new stadium project, as well as the fact that the club is still loss-making, means a new owner will need deep pockets.

Everton need plenty of money fast from anyone who buys out Farhad Moshiri.

Textor clearly has those compared to most people but whether they are deep enough to take on the challenge of righting the ship at Goodison Park is obviously in doubt.

Since he has to sell his 45% holding in Palace the situation could change if he suddenly got a huge offer for those shares which he could plow into Everton, but that seems unlikely when he has been unable to offload them for what he thinks they are worth over a significant period.

In other Everton news, a FIFA agent has issued an update as the Toffees are linked to signing a new international midfielder.
