The Esk shares if Downing & Bell set to bid again for Everton as Textor returns to fold

Everton fans Andy Bell and George Downing will not be making another takeover bid as John Textor rekindled his interest, according to the Esk.

The Bell and Downing front which was backed by Michael Dell, was understood to be one that would’ve been welcomed by the fans as well. [Alan Myers, 8 June]

However, their interest in the club has ended and while Textor has submitted another bid [Guardian, 9 August], they will not be competing with the American.

Esk wrote on X, when asked if they’d make another bid: “It’s over mate”

Bell and Downing, both successful businessmen and lifelong Toffees fans, would be ideal owners due to their deep-rooted passion for the club and their proven business acumen.

As local figures with a genuine love for Everton, they understand the club’s history, culture and the expectations of their loyal fanbase.

Their investment would likely prioritise the club’s long-term success and stability, ensuring that the Merseyside outfit remains competitive while maintaining the right identity and values.

Moreover, their business backgrounds suggest they possess the financial and strategic expertise necessary to navigate the complexities of modern football ownership.

This experience would be invaluable in overseeing the Toffees’ operations, including the construction of the new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium and the club’s commercial activities.

However, this seems to be a pipedream as they’re showing no willingness to return to the fold even though things appear to be premature with regards to Textor’s takeover.
