Paul Robinson believes Mikey Moore is ready to play a bigger role for the Tottenham first team next season.

Ange Postecoglou handed the 16-year-old his Premier League debut last term, sending him on as a substitute during a 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, becoming Spurs’ youngest Premier League debutant.

The young striker has also been impressing during pre-season, scoring during the 5-1 demolition of Hearts before scoring the winner against Vissel Kobe on Saturday 27 July.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “The fact that he’s been given his Premier League debut is a huge statement from the manager. He’s still 16 years old so it will all be about how the players are handled.

“There are players you see who are ready. Look at Wayne Rooney at that age, breaking onto the scene. He looked like he was ready and there was no protecting him. It was the same as Lamine Yamal at Euro 2024.

“Mikey Moore is one in that bracket. The manager could utilise him next season – he looks ready.”

Is Mikey Moore ready for first-team football at Tottenham?

Being placed in the same bracket as Rooney is quite the compliment, and probably a lot of pressure for a 16-year-old trying to break through at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, it is becoming clearer and clearer with each passing season that age is just a number in football, with Spurs splashing £30million on 18-year-old Archie Gray from Leeds United this summer [BBC Sport].

Moore has the potential to be one of the next big stars at Tottenham, and many will be hoping that he follows in the footsteps of Harry Kane when it comes to the striker position.

While the player has yet to make his full Tottenham debut, many fans are expecting him to claim so much more than that next season as he continues his development with the Lilywhites.

In other Tottenham news, a “fantastic” behind-the-scenes figure has officially confirmed his exit.
