Wenham backs Tottenham to sign Chelsea star ahead of Man Utd ace amid £40m transfer news

John Wenham claims Tottenham will prioritise a move for Conor Gallagher over Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay.

The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose doesn’t see any space for McTominay in Ange Postecoglou’s midfield.

As reported by The Sun (18 July), Manchester United want at least £40million for McTominay with Spurs keeping an eye on the Scotland international.

However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – feels that the North London club’s priorities lie elsewhere.

“I am a fan of McTominay, I think he would do a job for Spurs,” Wenham said.

“However, with the emergence of Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray that we’re seeing in pre-season, I just think the midfield is quite full.

“I think the club would still take a chance on a player like Gallagher if that move became available toward the end of the window because he is someone who Postecoglou wants.

“However, I just don’t see us making a move for McTominay.”

If Spurs were to sign McTominay for £40million they would then be unlikely to move for Gallagher.

Therefore, the club would be better off waiting to see if a move for the Chelsea midfielder becomes a possibility.

He would be a more exciting signing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and someone who is likely to inspire more confidence among supporters of the club.

Spurs have long been linked with a move for Gallagher (The Evening Standard, 19 June) and it would appear as though he is somebody who Postecoglou is keen to sign, which is the most important factor.
